Jehangir House
and Other Stories
A captivating collection of 18 stories that explore the intricate lives, emotions, and dreams of women in a Muslim middle-class milieu—woven with nostalgia, tenderness, and quiet strength.
Houses hold more than walls—they hold our memories, our struggles, and our hope.
Jehangir House and Other Stories is a rich collection of 18 short stories that traverse the landscapes of memory, resilience, and personal transformation.
The collection includes elegiac pieces such as Jehangir House, Marigold House, Requiem for Mehboob Manzil, My Grandfather’s House, and Farewell Aunt Husna—all evoking the melancholy beauty of homes and eras gone by.
Themes range from facing loss (Sunset and Twilight) and betrayal (Destiny, Cherished, The Fallen Idol) to courage and perseverance (The New Horizon).
Romantic narratives like The Healing, The Anniversary, and A Different Sky are tender counterpoints to the emotional intensity of Renunciation and Repentance.
Adding a dash of humour, Post Office Clerk Becomes a Guava offers a playful twist inspired by Kiran Desai’s Hullabaloo in a Guava Orchard.
This is a book for those who love layered storytelling—where every page feels like opening a door to another life.
